I’ll admit, being a brand ambassador has its perks. You get to try new products for free; you’re able to add this accomplishment to your media kit, and you’re able to have a natural conversation with friends about the brand.
But not all brand ambassador partnerships are the same. In this blog post, I will share with you five tips that you should consider before becoming a brand ambassador.
Know Your Why
If a brand reaches out to you or if you apply for a brand ambassador role, you should have an apparent reason for why. Do you want free products? Do you love the brand and want to spread awareness to your audience? Do you like the brand and believe in their mission and what they stand for?
Never become a brand ambassador for a brand that doesn’t align with your own brand’s mission.
Who Else Can I Work With
Some brand ambassador partnerships require that you can only represent their brand during a specific time frame. In other words, you cannot be a brand ambassador for any other brand in the same category. When you’re representing multiple brands, you don’t want to look untrusting to your audience. Make sure that you know all requirements before applying or taking on an ambassador partnership.
Commission
When you become a brand ambassador, brands will provide you with a link that your audience can use to save money on their purchase. But did you know that some brands will offer you a commission on the sales that you make for them? This is very important to know. Another factor to consider, some brands may not offer you a commission on sales; however, they may provide you with compensation for hosting events. The critical factor is to ask yourself: “Am I benefiting from this partnership?” Remember, when you become a brand ambassador, you promote the brand in hopes of leading to a sale. A brand should be compensating you and not only in free items.
How Much Work Will Be Required
I have been a brand ambassador for a few different brands. Some didn’t require much, while others required demonstrations, constant promoting. Before applying for a brand ambassador, it’s essential to know what all you’ll be getting yourself into. Is the partnership a two-way street? Am I being valued as a blogger or content creator? How much work do you have to do for this partnership? Is it worth it? Knowing the answers to these questions are essential.
Promotion
Don’t you hate it when a brand DM you on Instagram staying that they can help you grow if you become a brand ambassador? Only to find out they’re only using your images and content to drive sales to their business. If a brand reaches out to you, then you are already discoverable. Just because a brand reshares your images doesn’t automatically convert to exposure for you. You don’t need to be a brand ambassador to grow as a blogger or content creator.
