If you’re coming from my blog post How To Pitch Successfully As An Influencer, you already know the importance of a media kit. Some bloggers and influencers get stage fright when reaching out to brands. But, if you want to monetize your influence, you will have to start pitching to brands, and a media kit must be included. Of course, you could wait for brands to reach out to you, but why wait? Be proactive and go after the brands you want to partner with. I am sharing with you why having a media kit is important and ways you can snag yours.
What is a Media Kit
A media kit is your visual resume that showcases blog stats, information about your blog, social media stats, and previous brand collaborations. Your media kit is a snapshot of who you are as a blogger and your most excellent work. If monetizing your blog is one of your goals, creating a media kit is key. Brands are more likely to take you seriously if you have a media kit. Getting a brand to pay you will take more than having great Instagram photos. A brand will notice and want to work with you when you are serious about your content. It’s important to keep in mind that brands receive countless emails daily from bloggers and influencers just like you. Please don’t make it easy for them to trash your email because you failed to take this seriously.
So What? Your Numbers are Low
Now that you know the importance of having a media kit, it’s time to include all the important details that will make any brand want to work with you. Your media kit should look professional, sound good, and represent you.
If you’ve never worked with brands before and don’t have a considerable following, or if your blog views are not high, you will have to work with what you have, and that’s growth. Let’s take Instagram, for example. If you have a small following, but your engagement is through the roof, you’ll have to play up that strength. Or if your blog views are low, but you consistently write on your blog, and you have grown over months. Use this to your advantage! Your media kit is the first step in making a good impression. It can help or hinder you, so you must showcase your best work.
What You Should Include in Your Media Kit
A Short Bio
This is the section where you tell a little bit about yourself. You want to inform the brand as much about who you are, your brand’s mission, and your target audience.
Social Media Analytics (Stats)
It’s important to include your analytics from your social media platforms. If you’re only on a couple of platforms, that is ok; it’s not a requirement to be on all of them. I am on all social platforms except YouTube, and I think one of the biggest platforms you should be on is Instagram. If your stats are low in numbers, combine all your social stats collectively.
Blog Stats
If you have a blog, it is important to include this in your media kit. Having a blog is an exceptional platform to have. Your blog stats should consist of your monthly unique views and subscriber count, and creating a Google Analytics account will provide you with this.
Service Offered
Here, you will list what you are willing to do for a brand—blog post, Instagram post, Instagram video, Pinterest pin, etc. Make sure that the content you are willing to create for these platforms has a great audience.
High-Quality Images
Including 2 or 3 high-quality images in your media kit is a good idea. Including high-quality images in your media kit will give a brand an idea of the content you can produce.
Previous Collaborations
Suppose you’ve never worked with brands before; you won’t have any previous collaborations. Not to worry, if you’ve ever been a brand ambassador or been featured on any Instagram pages, you can always include that in place of paid collaborations.
Contact Information
I don’t have to tell you the importance of having your contact information in your media kit. If you want a brand to respond, they must know how to contact you.
How to Create Your Media Kit
I created my media kit in Canva and since I love designing things, it was a piece of cake. But this might not be you, you might not have the skills of graphic designing (although I believe you do), or maybe you’re unsure of how to design it. There are websites like Etsy that you can purchase templates from. But you are in luck! I’ve created two media kits for bloggers and content creators that you can download for FREE below! Don’t worry; you can edit the templates right inside Canva.
Well, my fabulous friends! There you have it, why having a media kit is important. I hope you’ve found this blog post helpful.
