So you’ve taken the giant leap and created a blog, congratulations! You’ve picked out your fonts, layout, your name, and now you’re probably wondering what is next. Well, my friend, it’s time for you to write your first blog post. I think most new bloggers find it challenging not knowing what to write about, and this is where I can help you. So let’s dive into how to write your first blog post.
Introduce Yourself For Your First Blog Post
The easiest way to write your first blog post is by introducing yourself. You want to share important facts about, who you are, where you live, and what your readers can expect. This is the easiest way to get your first blog post out to the world. If you haven’t already done so, it’s a good idea to have a list of topic ideas already written down so you will always have content.
Your future blog post should be those topics you have a voice and expertise. For example, if you started your blog to speak about motherhood, travel, and marriage, be sure to have blog ideas centered around those particular topics. Sure, you can write about whatever you like, but to grow and keep new readers engaged to your blog, you’re going to have to be clear on what it is you are delivering. I challenge you to read other blogs with similar topics that interest you to gather ideas for your blog. Once you have a few blog post topics written down, I suggest planning them over the next few weeks. I’ll go into more details later in this blog post.
Write in Your Voice
Most new bloggers have a difficult time finding their blogging voice. Personally, when I first started blogging, I was writing in everyone else’s voice but my own. My most extensive advice is to be you! Based on the purpose of your blog, whether it’s formal or informal, it’s essential to keep that voice throughout your blog. You want to attract the right audience; this is your target audience. Your blogging voice should speak to your target audience and provide them with a sense of comfort and familiarity.

Get Social
Once you’ve written your first blog post and written down your topic ideas, you want to share your blog post with your social media accounts. Also, your blog should have social share buttons so that others can share your content. This will help drive more traffic to your blog!
Create a Blogging Schedule
I know this blog post is about writing your first blog post, but if you don’t have a blogging schedule for your first blog post and all other blog posts after that, this will be your only one! You will need to get in the habit of creating a blogging schedule that works for you. Having a plan keeps you accountable and on task with blogging demands. Especially if you want to make money from your blog, you’re going to need a system in place.
Ask For Feedback on Your First Blog Post
Writing your first blog post is exciting yet daunting. You’re going to want to know what others thought of your first blog post. Was it insightful, funny, direct? Did they receive it the way you meant to write it?
Proofread Proofread Your First Blog Post!!!
If you don’t take anything else from this blog post, remember that proofreading your first blog post is critical. I know firsthand what it’s like not to proofread your post, but you’ll get better at writing and reading your work with time. Here are three steps that I take when writing a new blog post.
- Write the blog post
- Proofread the blog post in draft format
- Followed by proofreading in preview mode
- Take a break
- Proofread AGAIN!
- Publish blog post
- Proofread after publishing
I know that it may seem like many steps, but trust me, it’s worth it.
