Microfiber Towel

I admit I don’t always use a microfiber towel on wash day. But microfiber towels have been better than using cotton towels. Cotton towels can cause breakage and damage your hair strands, and Microfiber towels are better to use since it helps reduce breakage from happening. Microfiber towels help minimize breakage and help reduce frizziness and absorb excess moisture. In addition to being better than cotton towels, microfiber towels last longer.

Hair Clips

Hair clips are so essential for us kinky hair gals. When using hair clips, you can section your hair and work with each section slowly and carefully.

Shears

Now every naturalist may feel comfortable clipping their ends or hair. But if you think you can handle that task, you must invest in a good pair. A set of great shears will help you keep your natural hair healthy.

Hair Scrunchies

If your hair is long enough to wear hair ties/ scrunchies, it’s essential not to use those hair ties with rubber; those could cause breakage to your hair strands. Hair scrunchies are good to use when you want your hairstyle to last. You separate your hair into sections, put the hair scrunchies on each section, and you’re good to go.

Satin Bonnet/ Pillowcase

To avoid breakage and damaging your hair strands, it’s best to wear a satin bonnet or sleep on a satin pillowcase.

Denman Brush

Now, this is one of the tools you may or may not need. Most naturals will use a Denman brush to help detangle your hair strands while it is wet. Another great way to use a Denman brush is to help distribute products through your hair and define your curls.

Scalp Massager

This tool helps promote hair growth and gets the blood circulating. One of the benefits of using a scalp massager is that the scalp massager is doing all of the work and not my fingers. When shampooing your hair, you want to clean your scalp and get all the dirt out. Using this tool helps clean your scalp, but it’s a great tool to massage your scalp.

Aerosol Spray Bottle

Using a misting spray can refresh your curls and is suitable for wetting the hair without drenching it. I have used this spray bottle for quite some time, and I love it.

Hand Blow Dryer

If you enjoy wearing blowouts or need to stretch your hair with heat, a handheld blow dryer can help. This tool can help with the previous mentions, but it can also help trim your ends. You want your hair as stretched as possible, and a handheld blow dryer can do that.

Hair Steamer

Hair steamers help increase the moisture in your hair, which is significant for your natural hair journey. Steamers help replenish what we may have lost in our hair throughout the week. I use my steamer while I am deep conditioning my hair. Since I am low porosity, this tool allows me to add more moisture to my hair since my cuticles will be open because of the added heat.

Wide Tooth Comb

A wide-tooth comb help reduces breakage and helps make the detangling process much more manageable. A wide-tooth comb is gentler on the scalp because the ends aren’t sharp like a rattail comb.

Afro Pick

Great for adding volume to your hair and can be used to detangle your hair. There are different sizes; I prefer both a wide toothpick and those with the teeth closer together—it depends on your preference.

Edge Brush

If you’re like me and love to slay your edges, you need to invest in an edge brush. Get you an edge brush, my sisters. I don’t want to see you guys using an old toothbrush on your edges.
